Jae Hee has left the building

Anyone else think his buzz cut makes it look like he's wearing a yamika?
Anyways...

Wave goodbye folks. Actor Jae Hee, the lovable goof from great shows and movies such as Delightful Girl Choon Hyang and 3-Iron, is officially beginning his military service.

Oh, but dry your tears. It's not quite the end of the world yet. We don't have to go cold turkey. He's leaving behind plenty for us to enjoy as we slowly ween ourselves off of that intoxicating grin. The KBS drama, Hometown of Legends [전설의 고향] and the fantasy-action thriller movie, Mandate are still coming even if Jae Hee is going. More on those later.

So, bon voyage Jae Hee. Be safe, make your country proud, and please come back in one piece.
See ya in two years.

Lee Ji Ah Hospitalised While Filming

Korean actress, Lee Ji Ah, is working at being the latest victim of the infamous OCS (Overworked Celebrity Syndrome). She collapsed while filming a scene for her upcoming drama Beethoven Virus earlier this week (1st August) and was rushed to the emergency room.

After being submerged in cold water for almost 20 hours in a two day time frame filming the promotional posters and an underwater scene for the drama, she suddenly complained of breathing difficulties. She was rushed to the nearest hospital for treatment. The initial diagnosis showed that she might have developed hypothermia and meningitis.

MENINGITIS? Seriously?

Lee Ji Ah has been temporarily removed from filming and is recuperating at home. However, the show must go on and scenes without Lee Ji Ah will be filmed as scheduled, but the rest of the scenes involving her must wait until she returns.

I've been tracking both "Beethoven Virus" and Lee Ji Ah for a while so this news is rather shocking. Lee Ji Ah is new to the acting scene and has become very popular after her role in "The Legend" alongside the King of Kdrama, Bae Yong Jun. She played a spunky ass kicking warrior chick in "The Legend" which made her one of my new favorite actresses. Also staring in "Beethoven Virus" are actors Kim Myung Min and my boy Jang Geun Suk.

With Lee Ji Ah AND Jang Geun Suk it's no surprise why I've be stalking this drama.

"Beethoven Virus" is set for broadcast on September 3th. Hopefully Ji Ah recovers quickly and the producers take better care of their money makers.

No news as to if this spell will delay the shows air date or not.

Hyun Bin and Song Hye Kyo Film New Drama

Korean stars Hyun Bin and Song Hye Kyo are to fly to Singapore at the end of this month to shoot their new drama The World That They Live in. KBS started filming the drama in July and the cast and crew are to spend 10 days in Singapore filming. This is the first time the two actors have worked together, but they already have one thing in common. "The World That They Live in" seems to be the comeback drama for both of them.

Hyun Bin has been out of the showbiz scene since 2006 with his last film, A Millionaire's First Love, and drama, The Snow Queen. Both were rather unsuccessful productions and this was rumored to be the reason Hyun Bin fell off the radar. Unable to keep a good star down for long, he is back with a vengeance. Not only is the actor making a comeback to television with "The World That They Live in," but he's crashing the big screen too with his upcoming movie "I'm Very Happy."

Even more shocking is Song Hye Kyo, who is also making a comeback to the small screen with this drama, four years after her drama Full House, the role her name is synonymous with. Since Full House she has only acted in a handful of movies.

The TV series is about the production of TV dramas and the fierce competition in the industry. Song Hye Kyo will star as an enterprising and mature director in the drama, while Hyun Bin also will play a director.

Baby and Me - Kmovie on the Horizon

Baby and Me (아기와나/Agiwa Na), also being called Baby and I by some Korean producer who has no grasp on English grammar, creeps ever closer to the Korean big screen. With less then two weeks until it's release, this fangirl can't help but wonder... what is up with the publicity department? The Internet is plastered with photos and videos of rising heartthrob Jang Geun Suk and baby Mason chilling out and playing behind the scenes. But where is the official website? The Babyandi.co.kr address as been announced and all over press releases for weeks and it's still a empty page with nothing but ads.

Granted, the sea of cute 'boys will be boys' media is a brilliant marketing tool. Women across the Internet are eating it up and foaming at the mouth waiting for the movie, even myself. However, I can't help but get a little disappointed that I must continue to hunt down movie updates on Naver and Soompi. Even the movie's own Naver blog seems slow on the uptake as it's just now getting a good flow of pictures and news to tease us with. With the movie so close, what seems to be the website's hang up boys?

Baby & Me is a comedy about Han Joon Soo (Jang Geun Suk) suddenly becoming a father. Joon Soo is a 19 year old high school kid and trouble maker. He gets in fights, often being severely outnumbered, but always is the last one standing. Then, one day when Joon Soo’s parents go out of town, like any self respecting movie teenager, Joon Soo decides to throw a party. However, when he goes shopping for supplies, he gets a surprise. He finds a toddler in a shopping basket with a tag attached to him with the name Han... Woo... Ram... which points to Joon Soo as his father!

He takes the baby home and tries to find the his real parents. When he can’t find them, he tries to abandon the baby again but fails. With no one at home Joon Soo is forced to take the baby to school with him which causes even more chaos and fun.

Baby and Me releases August 14th in Korea.

Someone is not happy with all that attention.

Awww how cute. The pacifier seems to have perked Mason up.

As horrifying as the thought of Geun Suk having kids at his age is...

I have to admit they look adorable together.

Recap: Chinese Paladin Episode 01

Usually I don't watch a lot of Wuxia dramas because 1) They are soooooooooo long, and 2) They get boring since it's drawn out epic stories I'm expected to know already and probably would if I were Chinese. That actually stays true for most countries I watch shows from. Most first episodes just have too much set up to catch my interest so I never really get past it. The only period shows I ever really liked were ones that were crazy and funny.

So, why, when I have a low track record for period dramas, did I decide to watch Chinese Paladin?"
I'll admit it. I'm shallow. I stumbled across a photo of Eddie Peng's character in the show and promptly fell out of my chair.

I have a hair fetish. So his wickedly yummy hairdo made me curious enough to look the show up. Finding out the show is based of of a video game just made me laugh pretty hard so I just HAD to see at least the first episode. I hardly expected to be hooked with just that one episode.

I think I expected it to be cheesy or maybe like an actual video game, but I was surprised. The first 6 minuets were very much like every other Wuxia drama. Starting ten years in the past and in the middle of some commotion, I of course had no idea what was going on. In some ancient Chinese nation the townsfolk chant for their Queen, who they claim to be a demon, to be killed. They are obviously being influenced by a shady looking man who is the head priest of the Lunar Sect. It's a very cult like scene. However, before they can advance on the Queen a masked man comes to the rescue. In a string of rapid special effects and explosions the priest summons a water monster, the Queen goes to fight it, and the masked hero rushes to save a old woman and young girl running from a bunch of guards. They don't say much during this part so I can only assume this is the princess and they are trying to kill her for the same reason as her mother? I don't know, that will probably be explained more later. The very quick intro set up was nice.

Then suddenly there is a drastic shift in the story and Xiao Yao is above the clouds in a random Dragonball-esue fight where he turns his tiny dagger into a surf board. In the end he looses and falls out of the sky and lands in bed. It was only a dream.

Now back in reality, the real Xiao Yao is revealed. 'Abandoned' by his parents who have left him with his Aunt to live the Jang Hu (drifter... sort of) life style when he was young. Xiao Yao helps his Aunt run their... always empty inn. Xiao Yao is an obnoxious, perverted, trouble maker. He toys with the local women and gets into fights for no reason.

After three mysterious men with crescent moons on their foreheads rent the whole inn and Xiao Yao gets into a nasty fight with his Aunt, she suddenly falls ill. The doctor can't figure out what is wrong with her so the mysterious men tell him he must travel to the Divine Spirit Island to get the fairies magical medicine.

Without skipping a beat he's off. His journey will sound like a bad acid trip but... He sails through a tidal wave and miraculously washes ashore still alive. Then, wanders through the woods where he is attacked by giant stone pillars. After destroying them, the ground swallows him and he lands on a giant lotus flower in the middle of a pond. The lotus transports him back to land where he stumbles across a girl bathing. Taking him for a pervert she tries to strike him with lightening. That is until she recognizes him as the mysterious masked hero who saved her when she was little. How she figured that one out when he never took the mask off, I do not know. But, she instantly changes her mood and fauns over him.

The girl, Ling'er, ignores his confusion and pleas for medicine and drags him off to show him her tree of memories. As Xiao Yao gets impatient, Liang'er's mood changes again. She apologizes for being selfish and takes him to her grandmother's home. She gives him a "Purple Gold Pill." Which is isn't really purple or gold. In fact, it glows. Not exactly something I would willingly swallow...

Liang'er's grandmother suddenly shows up so they hide in the cupboard, where the best part of the episode happens. Liang'er is very naive and obviously has not been around many males because she becomes captivated by Xiao Yao's Adam's apple and begins touching him. He freaks out and warns her that if she keeps that up he'll do something bad. Like that stops her. So he kisses her on the cheek. Puzzled as to why that's bad, she does it back and he warns her again that he'll do something even worse. Of course she's not scared at all. Instead she's curious what he would do. Sufficiently tempted he leans in to kiss her... and just then Grandma finds them.

Ling'er takes and shows him a 'seed' he gave her ten years ago. She has been caring for it since then but it still has not sprouted because it's a stone not a seed. Ling'er insists that Xiao Yao would not lie to her and that the stone will bloom because he said it would.

After wondering why Xiao Yao remembers nothing from ten years ago Grandma figures out that Xiao Yao isn't the hero who saved them, but that he is in fact his son. Xiao Yao's father was a hero who stayed anonymous by using his son's name instead of his own. Since she is indebted to his family Grandma offers Xiao Yao the medicine for his Aunt, under one condition... He has to marry Liang'er immediately.
